Application Options at St. Olaf College Early Decision Admission: Each year, more than 150 students select St. Olaf as their first-choice college and apply under the Early Decision admission plan. Early Decision candidates will be considered for admission based on work through their junior year. Students applying under Early Decision must apply no later than Nov. 15 of their senior year in high school. Admissions decisions will be mailed on Dec. 5. Students applying under Early Decision must complete the Early Decision Agreement Form found in the application materials. This agreement states that, upon acceptance to St. Olaf, you will withdraw applications to all other schools and will not initiate any new applications. St. Olaf expects that all Early Decision candidates will honor this commitment. Students admitted under Early Decision must confirm their intention to enroll within 10 days of receiving an admission and/or a financial aid decision. Your intent to enroll is confirmed when you submit a non-refundable $300 initial payment. A second payment of $300 is due on May 1, 2004. The majority of students who are not offered admission under Early Decision will be considered with all candidates for Regular admission upon receipt of grades from the first semester or trimester of their senior year. Early Action Admission: Candidates who wish to receive notification of their admission in January should apply under the Early Action Admission Process. Applications must be received by Dec. 15, with all required admissions information being received by Jan. 2. Candidates will be reviewed using junior year grades. Admissions decisions will be mailed on Jan. 15. Incomplete files will be moved to the Regular admission process. Candidates applying under Early Action may apply to other colleges and do not need to confirm their enrollment until May 1, 2004. Regular Admission: Students applying for admission to St. Olaf College under the Regular Admission process must submit their applications no later than Feb. 15. Admissions decisions will be mailed beginning March 1. All students should expect to receive a decision from the college no later than April 1. Students applying under Regular admission must submit grades from the first semester or trimester of your senior year. Music Candidates: In addition to a Bachelor of Arts degree, St. Olaf also offers a Bachelor of Music degree. All students who intend to major in music must complete an audition process as determined by the St. Olaf Music department. Admission to the college must precede admission to either of the music degree programs. Application to the college should be submitted to the Admissions Office no later than Dec. 15, and music scholarship and/or admissions application materials are due Jan. 2. For further information, contact Mary Hakes at 507-646-3297 or see www.stolaf.edu/depts/music. Transfer Students: St. Olaf admits transfer students for each term. Candidates who have completed at least one full year at another institution may apply under Early Decision, Early Action or Regular admission. Candidates who are in their first year at another institution may apply only under the Regular admission process. Transfer students should submit the general St. Olaf Application for Admission as well as the Dean’s Form (which will be sent upon receipt of Part One), an official final high school transcript and an official college transcript showing all previous college coursework completed. The St. Olaf Registrar will provide transfer students with a written evaluation of credits accepted by St. Olaf within two weeks of an offer of admission. Credit granted for transferred work is provisional, subject to completion of one year of satisfactory study at St. Olaf. International Students: International students are those students who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents of the United States. International Students may apply under Early Action or Regular admission. In addition to the ACT or SAT, all international students are required to submit official results of the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language). The minimum TOEFL score accepted for admission is 550 (or 213 for the computer-based test).
