In general, candidates who have
completed the level of education required for admission to university in their home
country and have achieved good grades are eligible to apply for admission.
The school-leaving courses presented should be appropriate for
the degree program to which application has been made. Some programs have additional
requirements, e.g. audition, interview, portfolio. For your convenience, these are
indicated in the faculty program information section. More specific information with
respect to admission requirements and placement levels may be obtained by writing to the
Office of the Registrar.
Since entry to many programs is limited, the completion of the
minimum requirements listed does not guarantee acceptance. Academic Requirements
United Kingdom and
Commonwealth (GCE System)
Passes awarded by U.K. examination boards for the General Certificate of Education, the
Cambridge Overseas and Higher School Certificates, the West African School Certificates or
the General Certificate of Education meet the general entrance requirements of the regular
three-year programs (four years in Engineering, BEd [Teaching of English as a Second
Language - TESL], BA [Early Childhood and Elementary Education], or BFA [Specialization in
Art Education]) if the conditions of either Scenario A or Scenario B are satisfied.
Scenario A: Passes in five subjects, of which two must be passed at the Advanced
Level (GCE) or Principal Level (COHSC), and three at the Ordinary Level (or GCSE) or the
School Certificate Level.
Scenario B: Passes in four subjects, of which at least three must be passed at the
Advanced Level (GCE) or Principal Level (COHSC), and one at the Ordinary Level (or GCSE)
or the School Certificate Level.
- An average grade of "D" or better in Advanced or Principal Level subjects is
expected. In the case of certain quota programs where enrolment is limited, candidates
will have to present higher grades in order to compete successfully for places at the
University.
- Two appropriate AS (Advanced Supplementary) Levels may be accepted in lieu of an
Advanced Level for the purpose of satisfying the general entrance requirements of the
University.
Students who have not written Advanced or Principal Level examinations but who have high
grades in at least five appropriate Ordinary Level, GCSE, or School Certificate Level
subjects plus one year of formal schooling beyond Ordinary Level in a suitable academic
program in a recognized school or college, may be considered for admission to an
undergraduate program requiring the completion of 120 credits (four years). In the case of
the BEng, BA (Early Childhood and Elementary Education), BEd (TESL), or BFA
(Specialization in Art Education), the program would require four to five years.
United States
Potential high school graduates, with strong grades from accredited schools, who have
followed an academic program designed for university entrance, may apply for admission to
an undergraduate program of a minimum of 120 credits.
Applicants are required to have a better-than-average school
record and high ranking in their graduating class. While no set pattern of courses in high
school is required, all applicants are expected to have taken four units of English. Those
applying for admission to Science and Engineering must include three or four units in
mathematics and two in the sciences. At least three units of mathematics are recommended
for admission to Commerce and Administration. The Office of the Registrar may approve
slight deviations from the above pattern.
Letters of recommendation and SAT achievement scores are not
required for admission. However, they are very helpful complements to a students
transcript of grades. We encourage applicants to include a school profile, indicating the
grading system, college recommending mark and accreditation.
Advanced Placement
Students who have successfully passed Advanced Placement examinations in appropriate
subjects with a grade of "3" or better may be granted some advanced standing.
French Baccalauréat *
Students who have completed the requirements for the Baccalauréat with satisfactory
results may be considered for admission to an undergraduate program requiring the
completion of 90 credits (three years) or 120 credits (four years) in the BA (Early
Childhood and Elementary Education), BEd (TESL), and BFA (Specialization in Art
Education).
The number of credits required for the Bachelor of/Baccalaureate
in Engineering varies according to the option chosen and to the previous preparation of
the student, but is usually no fewer than 116.
In cases where the Baccalauréat specialization (serie) followed
does not fully satisfy the entrance course requirements for the degree program sought, the
student, if admitted, will have to include the designated prerequisites as part of the
first-year program. In some instances, the prerequisites must be taken in addition to the
undergraduate program.
International
Baccalaureate *
Applicants who complete the full IB Diploma and who obtain a minimum total of 27 points,
may be considered for admission to the three-year (90 credits) programs of study (four
years of study in Engineering, BA, [Early Childhood and Elementary Education], BEd [TESL],
or BFA [Specialization in Art Education]). Students who have not completed the full IB
Diploma program but have IB Certificates in individual Higher Level subjects may be
eligible for credit.

The following partial list includes some of the certificates recognized as suitable
qualifications for application. Please note that the completion of one of the certificates

Special Information
Immigration Procedures
Since Canada has two levels of government, Federal and Provincial, all persons, other than
Canadian Citizens and Landed Immigrants, who wish to pursue their studies in the province
of Québec, must obtain a Québec Certificate of Acceptance (CAQ), and a Canadian Student
Authorization before proceeding to Canada. The Québec Certificate of Acceptance must be
obtained before the Canadian Immigration Services can issue a Student Authorization. As it
may take several weeks to obtain the Student Authorization, the application process should
be started immediately upon receipt of the letter of admission from Concordia University.
The Ministry of Education considers Convention Refugees and Refugee Claimants who have not
yet obtained their Permanent Residency status in Canada as International students. For
this reason, both categories of refugees are required to obtain a Student Authorization
and a CAQ (Certificat d acceptation du Québec) or CSQ (Certificat de
sélection du Québec). Information on how to obtain these documents will be mailed
with acceptance letters.
Full information will be forwarded to you along with the letter of admission.
Financial Information
When applying for the Québec Certificate of Acceptance and the Canada Student
Authorization, an International student will be required to present evidence of sufficient
funds for tuition and living expenses before being admitted to Canada.
Please note that Canadian Immigration regulations allow
International students to work on the campus of the University where they are registered.
Temporary employment is not however considered as a sufficient source of funding, except
for graduate students receiving offers of employment as research or teaching assistants.
Students must be certain that funding has been arranged before leaving for Canada.
If a student is accompanied by his or her spouse, Canada
Immigration will allow the spouse to work on or off campus. However, should the spouse
become a full-time International student, he or she will be restricted to on-campus jobs
only.
An outline of fees and living expenses can be found in the
section regarding estimated costs in these instructions.
