An application fee UW-Stout must accompany your application. This is a non-refundable fee and is not applicable to any other University fee or bill .
Applicants are required to submit two official transcripts that show the highest
degree awarded, above an associate degree. If the undergraduate transcript
shows grades for less than 55 semester credits or the equivalent in other
units, then two transcripts from your other schools will be required.
Applicants may submit all transcripts (graduate and undergraduate) if
they so choose.
The applicant should request the registrar(s) to send the official transcript. An applicant may submit an official transcript providing it bears no restrictive statement. UW-Stout transcripts need not be requested. An applicant applying prior to being awarded a degree must submit a transcript which shows work through all but the last term . Such applications are subject to re-evaluation based upon the final transcript. In rare cases, an applicant may submit an attested copy of the transcript. To be regarded as official, transcripts must bear the impression seal of the institution and of the registrar. Please take special note that you are responsible for requesting transcripts; the Graduate College will not take this responsibility. Transcripts become a permanent part of UW-Stout files and will not be returned.
Work-in-Progress If you are currently working toward a degree, you must submit current official transcripts with your application. It is possible to be admitted tentatively, pending the receipt of a final official transcript showing the degree awarded.
In addition to other application materials, international students must arrange
to have an official transcript of TOEFL score sent directly to the Graduate
College Office by the Educational Testing Service. A Declaration of Finances
form (available from the Graduate College) must be completed showing
that you will be able to finance yourself during your study here. Send these
documents to the Graduate College.
Send these additional program materials directly to the Program Director of the
program to which you are applying. Contact them directly if you have questions
about these materials or whether they have been received.
Master's programs: Applied Psychology requires submission of GRE scores (General and Psychology Subject) and letters of recommendation;
Guidance and Counseling, Hospitality and Tourism, Marriage and Family Therapy, School Psychology, and Vocational Rehabilitation have special (internal) application forms in addition to those required by the Graduate College, and they require letters of recommendation and sometimes interviews.
Education Specialist programs: Guidance and Counseling must submit a current dossier listing all pertinent biographical and educational data and two letters attesting to at least two years of successful professional experience or the equivalent;
Industrial and Vocational Education must submit a current dossier listing all pertinent biographical and educational data and two letters from administrators or supervisors who can provide evidence of at least two years of successful teaching experience and professional promise.
If any needed Graduate College items are missing three (3) weeks after the application is received, the Graduate College will notify you by letter. After the application is processed, you will be notified of the decision by letter. If you are accepted for graduate study, brief registration instructions will be included in the admission letter.
If you are admitted, but do not enroll, your admission is generally valid for one year. However, admission in some programs maybe further restricted. Indicate the term in which you plan to enroll on your application form, section C, number 1.
Admitted graduate students who continue enrolling from term to term can receive registration materials from their Program Director. If you drop out for one or more terms, you may reactivate your status by filing a Records Update Form with the Graduate Office.
To obtain permission to register as a graduate special student (not in a graduate degree program), you must submit the Application for Admission or Enrollment completed through section D. Special students must have earned at least a bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year institution and indicate so on the application form. No application fee is required.
The materials should be submitted 30 days prior to the first planned registration. You will be notified by mail of your enrollment status. You may obtain registration materials by stopping at the Graduate Office during the period when registration materials for a given semester are being distributed.
If you are already admitted to the UW-Stout Graduate College (degree program or certification) and decide to change your major, you must complete a new Application for Graduate Admission or Enrollment, but the application fee will not be required. You will not be required to furnish transcripts or other credentials previously submitted to the Graduate College, but you should consult with the Office to be certain that your records are complete.
It is possible to transfer graduate credit to UW-Stout. This is done at the point of degree candidacy. See the Graduate Bulletin. A Request to Transfer Credit form must be filed for course(s) for which transfer is requested. This form requires both the adviser approval and subsequent Graduate College approval, and is available in the Graduate College Office. Only graduate work which will apply to the degree program can be transferred.
