International Undergraduate Application Instructions
The admission of international students is based on:
  1. Scholastic performance showing a high probability of success and ability to maintain a full course of study at ULM.

  2. Conduct and health records that indicate the student will not have excessive adjustment problems

  3. Satisfactory English proficiency

  4. Evidence of adequate financial support.

Applying for admission to The University of Louisiana at Monroe can be done in five easy steps:
1. Complete Application
Complete the application for admission and submit the non-refundable application fee via secure server. This fee must be paid before any evaluation will be made and is not refundable under any circumstances.
2. Submit Transcripts
To be considered for admission, the applicant must send one official copy of each transcript- in English- describing all academic studies completed and attempted prior to the time of application. All information must be submitted whether or not credit was earned. No portion of the applicant's previous academic records will be disregarded.
The transcript should indicate the dates each subject began and ended, and the grades (marks) earned.
Students seeking transfer credit for university level courses must submit a syllabus, catalog, or bulletin which describes the courses in detail.
An "official" transcript is one issued and forwarded directly to the Admissions Office by the Registrar, Principal, or responsible school administrator. When this is not possible, documents certified as true copies are acceptable.
Freshman English courses taken from colleges and universities where English is not the native language may not transfer to satisfy ULM's undergraduate requirements of English 101-102. A student with such credit must take ULM's English 101-102 or pass the appropriate CLEP tests for credit in freshman English.
All transcripts become the property of the University and cannot be returned to the applicant.
3. English Language Requirement
All students are required to submit a minimum official TOEFL score of no less than 480 or 157 on computer based test. Those who have a score of 600 (250 computer based) or more may be exempt from the English as a Second Language Requirements.
If an English language deficiency is determined, a student will be required to enroll full time in the English as a Second Language (ESL) program until an acceptable level of language proficiency has been attained. Enrollment in academic courses may not be allowed until this deficiency is alleviated. When the student has completed all ESL requirements, the student will then be allowed to pursue courses toward degree completion.
However, an international applicant may be exempt from the English language proficiency test if one of the following applies:
  1. A student's native language is English.
  2. Submit an official TOEFL Score of 600 or more.
  3. The grade equivalent obtained on the English Language portion fo the General Certificate of Education (GCE-University of Cambridge/London) is a "C" or better.
  4. A student is graduated from a regionally accredited U.S. college or university with a full 4-year baccalaureate degree (all credits must be earned in the U.S.).
