PhD Admission Process Guidelines
The completed application materials must be received in the School of Nursing, Office of Student Affairs, by March 1 for fall admission and September 1 for spring admission.

Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores must be submitted as part of the application. A GRE booklet may be obtained from the School of Nursing Student Affairs Office, from the counseling department of your nearest university, or Educational Testing Service, Box 955, Princeton, NJ 28544.

The following materials are needed to complete the application:
  • Application to the Graduate School
  • Application Vita (see enclosed form for direction)
  • Three letters of reference from individuals who hold doctoral degrees (at least one from an instructor who taught you in your master's program). These letters of reference should evaluate the personal and professional qualifications of the applicant to engage in scholarly activity. The School of Nursing does not send form for completion.
  • Two copies of official transcripts of all college records
  • GRE scores
  • Copies of any published materials
  • $25 application fee

When materials are received, they will be reviewed by the Admissions Committee. The most highly qualified applicants will be invited for interviews. An interview is required in order to complete the selection process. At the time of the interview, each applicant will be asked to spend one hour writing a response to one of three general questions related to nursing. The entire process from deadline date to admission should be completed in about eight weeks.
