TEACHING ASSISTANTSHIPS IN THE SCHOOL OF NURSING
The University of Kansas School of Nursing offers teaching assistantships to graduate nursing students, as needed by the School, to support the teaching of undergraduate students. These teaching assistants usually work in the learning laboratory, assisting students in learning nursing technical skills by demonstrating, observing the students' practice and monitoring return demonstrations for determining competency. Learning labs are open some evenings and weekends. Teaching assistants are paid $12 per hour. Tuition adjustments (resident or non resident) are also included. These can be found in the University Timetable. Currently, the adjustments are:

Occasionally, other teaching assistant assignments are made. For example, a graduate nursing student who is an experienced nursing teacher may be assigned a group of undergraduate students for clinical instruction under the supervision of a regular nursing faculty member. To apply for a teaching assistantship, please contact the Office of Academic Affairs, 913-588-1614. Applications are accepted as the need is determined. RESEARCH ASSISTANTSHIPS IN THE SCHOOL OF NURSING Faculty researchers in the School of Nursing often require research assistants to help them in their projects. Research assistant duties include literature review, library searches, collection of raw data from research subjects, coding data, entering data and other duties related to the research project. These projects are of varying length and may be grant funded. Students are paid according to graduate status: doctoral students are paid $15 per hour and master's students are paid $12 per hour. Tuition adjustments are included but are not the same as for the teaching assistant. If one works 40% time or more as a research assistant, one becomes eligible for "hourly staff rates". This is described in the University Timetable and currently means that one qualifies for resident tuition. To determine if research assistant positions are currently available, contact the Office of Nursing Grants and Research, 913-588-1632.
