Note to Applicants

Thank you for your interest in graduate programs at MIT. All necessary application forms are included on this web site. The application includes multiple parts, so you will find it helpful to review each form and read the instructions carefully before you begin working on your application. If you are applying to more than one department (not a joint program) you must submit separate applications and fees for each department.

Deadlines for September entry

To ensure that your application receives full consideration, all materials must be received by the official due date. Most application deadlines for September entry range from December 15 to January 15. (See departmental information for exact deadlines.) Regardless of the specific due date, we urge you to file your application by early December to avoid the risk that your mailed materials may be delayed by holiday mail. Late applications will only be considered if circumstances permit.

Other entry dates

A student may be admitted in January/February or June only if a suitable program of study can be arranged. Please check the departmental information to see if the department you are planning to apply to admits students in January/February or June. Most applications for February admission are due by November 1, and most applications for June admission are due between December 15 and January 15, unless otherwise stated in the departmental listings.

Special and Supplementary Applications

The Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) uses a separate online application. For more information, see http://www.eecs.mit.edu/.

Applicants to the Sloan School of Management must use Sloan's own application forms for the Master's Program or the Ph.D. Program rather than using the forms contained here. Complete information and an application are available on the web at http://mitsloan.mit.edu, or you may address your information request to:

Graduate Programs Office
Sloan School of Management
Massachusetts Institute of Technology
50 Memorial Drive
Cambridge, MA 02142, U.S.A.

Certain departments require supplementary application materials. The Leaders for Manufacturing Program requires online application with supplemental materials. Please consult the departmental information to see if the department to which you are applying has any supplementary requirements. All supplemental materials should be sent to the department to which you are applying.

Special Student Status

If you are applying as a special (non-degree) student, request a special student application from the Office of Graduate Admissions.
