Application Procedures
Application for Admission
Please complete the form accurately and neatly to ensure that review of your application is not delayed.
Choosing a Major: On the application form, please indicate your choice of major. Please select only one major. If you select more than one major, we will consider your major to be Undecided - Arts. If you do not meet the admission criteria for your major of choice but meet general University admission criteria, you will be accepted as an Undecided - Arts major.
Pre-Professional Programs: Pre-professional programs are not majors, therefore the University does not grant a degree in these fields. If you decide to participate in one of the pre-professional programs, you must also select a major. Selection of a pre-professional program will allow you to receive advisement and preparation in your field of interest. If you do not select a major and only select a pre-professional program, we will consider you to be an Undecided - Arts major.
Special Programs for New Jersey Residents ONLY: The Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) is available to residents of New Jersey who are academically and economically disadvantaged. If you apply to this program, you will be required to submit your family's most recent tax returns and come to campus for an interview. Admission to the EOF program requires you to participate in an intensive seven-week summer program to prepare you for a successful transition to college life. If you have questions about the EOF program, please contact (973) 761-9160.
Official Secondary School Transcript
Transcripts must be official copies with either a school seal or an original signature. Transcripts
should be sent in a sealed envelope or sent directly by the guidance office.
Official Copy of Your SAT I or ACT Scores
Seton Hall requires an official copy of your SAT I or ACT scores. We prefer that your scores be sent
to us directly from the testing center. Our SAT code is 2811, and our ACT code is 2606.
Seton Hall also will accept test scores that are sent as part of your official high school transcript.
Seton Hall will combine your highest test scores when reviewing your application. (Seton Hall does not
require the SAT II.)
SAT I or ACT scores are required of all applicants except those who have earned at least 24 transferable hours from an accredited college or university and those who graduated from high school ar least five years ago. Students who reside in Puerto Rico may submit SAT or TOEFL scores with their Prueba de Aptitude Academic (PAA) scores.
Counselor Report
This form must be completed by your guidance counselor or your college adviser. We prefer that your
counselor return this form with your application materials. However, if it is sent separately, it must be
sent to Seton Hall directly by your guidance counselor.
Personal Essay
Your personal essay is our best opportunity to get to know you better. Please be candid and share
with us information that will help us understand you and see the whole picture of your life - including
and beyond academics. The application lists several topic suggestions, but feel free to write about any
subject that you feel is relevant and will enable us to get to know you. Your essay should be typed and
double-spaced, and it should not exceed two pages.
Acknowledgment Postcard
Be sure to complete and return this postcard (back cover of application form) so that we can
acknowledge receipt of your application for admission to Seton Hall and notify you if we are missing
anything necessary to evaluate your eligibility for enrollment.
Survey Card
Please take a few minutes to give us feedback on how you learned about Seton Hall.
$45 Application Fee
Please submit a non-refundable application fee of $45 (payable online via secure server at time of
submission) with your application form. Seton Hall will accept official fee waivers submitted by your
high school guidance counselor.
How We Evaluate Applications
Your application will be reviewed thoroughly by at least two admission counselors. Seton Hall takes a
holistic approach and looks at each application individually. Certainly, your grades and test scores are
important in order for you to be competitive. We look for students with a strong academic record and high
standardized test scores, but we also take into consideration
whether you have taken challenging courses and a rigorous curriculum. Academic success is just one factor
in our evaluation. We also consider your extracurricular and service activities, leadership potential,
writing skills and recommendation(s) - and, of course, we want to hear from you and learn about you through
your essay.
In addition, you must also meet the following unit requirements:
The University actively seeks qualified persons of varied races, cultures, experiences and national backgrounds. Qualified students are admitted without regard to race, color, religion, age, disability, national origin, sexual orientation, ancestry or gender. Seton Hall is an equal opportunity/affirmative action institution. The University will make whatever arrangements are necessary to ensure that students with physical disabilities have the same opportunities on campus as those students without physical disabilities. Remember, too, that Seton Hall is "need-blind," which means that students are accepted regardless of their ability to pay. So your financial status will not be considered when we evaluate your application.
Personal Interviews
You also may want to schedule an interview. It is not required, but it is a great way for us to get
to know you personally and discuss your educational expectations. To schedule a personal interview,
please call Enrollment Services at (973) 761-9332 or 1-800-The Hall.
Visiting Campus
Visiting the campus is a great way for you to get to know the University better and, more importantly,
the people who make Seton HAll such a great place. We offer tours throughout the year. From September to
May, tours are usually offered on the following schedule:
Tours are not available on holidays, when the University is closed, or on other special dates. If you would like to sign up for a tour or receive more specific dates about available dates, please visit our Web site at www.shu.edu, or give us a call at 1-800-The Hall.
