Scholarships at Kalamazoo College

Competitive Scholarships

Competitive scholarship competitions are offered in five academic areas and are held on the Kalamazoo College campus. To be eligible, you must be admitted and register for the competition in which you are interested.

In order to allow as many individuals as possible to participate in the scholarship competitions, you may register for only one written exam. Students are permitted to register for one written exam and one fine arts competition. You do not need to major in the particular area of competition, but winners of fine arts scholarships are required to actively participate in the programs of the awarding department.

COMPETITION DATES AND SUBJECT AREAS
Saturday, February 2, 2002 English, Social Sciences, History, and Foreign Languages Competition (Choose one language: Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Latin, Spanish)
Saturday, February 16, 2002 Science and Mathematics Competition
Saturday, March 2, 2002 Fine Arts Competition (Art, Music, Photography, Theatre)

Honors Scholarships

Kalamazoo College Honors Scholarships recognize students with exceptional academic achievements and distinctive personal accomplishments. The Honors Scholarship Committee considers candidates on the basis of:
Academic Record--Distinguished by their academic achievements, recipients have completed challenging course work and have achieved outstanding grade point averages.
Leadership Record--Having held significant positions of responsibility in school or community organizations, or attained outstanding achievement in the arts, recipients are, "difference makers" who contribute widely and uniquely to the campus community.
Personal Accomplishment--As academic and extracurricular leaders, recipients excel in their chosen endeavors and receive the support, admiration, and recognition of both school officials and their peers.
Accepted applicants who meet the minimum standard for academic honor awards as defined by NCAA Division III standards (one of the following: 3.5 GPA, top 20% of high school class, ACT sum score of 100, or composite SAT score of 1140) may be considered for Honors Scholarship. Many students choose to enhance their credentials through the essay and admission interview.
