Transfer Admission Procedures
We welcome applications from students who wish to enter
Emory after completing work at another college. Applicants
must be withdrawn voluntarily from the college last attended
and must be eligible to return to that institution. A student
must be able to matriculate at least at sophomore status. Once
a student has at least one full year of college credit, he or she
may apply for transfer admission to Emory in any of the three
semesters.fall, spring, or summer. In order to graduate from
Emory College, a transfer student is required to complete the
last four semesters (sixty-four semester hours) of course work
at Emory; this is usually equivalent to two years of work.
Transfer students may transfer up to sixty-four semester
hours of college credit to Emory College.
Transfer candidates should submit the following in order to complete their
applications:
Application Processing Fee
An application processing fee of $40 must be paid on-line with Visa or
Mastercard. DO NOT send a check or money order separately.
Test Scores
All applicants are required to submit scores, taken within the last five years,
from the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or the American College Test (ACT). If you have not taken the SAT or ACT within the last five years, you may arrange to do so through the Educational Testing Service office in your area. Scores may be reported to Emory directly from the testing center or from the official secondary school transcript. Emory's College Entrance Examination Board (CEEB)/SAT code number is 5187; the ACT code number is 0810. Students who do not speak English as a first language are strongly encouraged to submit a Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score.

Faculty Recommendation
Applicants are responsible for providing Emory with a recommendation from a faculty member at the student's present institution. A recommendation form is including in the application menu. Candidates who have been employed for an extended period while not attending college may wish to have their employer, rather than a faculty member, provide the recommendation.
Secondary School Transcript
Transfer candidates who have completed less than two full years of college work must submit a transcript of their high school record as well as a transcript of all college work.
College Transcripts
Candidates should request registrars of all colleges attended to forward
transcripts of their college records to the Office of Admission. Candidates are encouraged to have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale in all college work attempted.
In order to matriculate at Emory College, all transfer students
must submit complete and final transcripts from all colleges
attended, including final grades for any work in progress at the
time of application.
Catalog from Current or Previous Colleges
In order to ensure proper evaluation of all college-level academic work, the
Office of Admission requests a catalog from the applicant's previous and/or current college. In the event that these catalogs are not on file, the Office of Admission will notify the applicant. The applicant is then responsible for sending the requested catalog or course descriptions.
Credit Evaluation
Listed below are the criteria used to determine the amount of credit earned at a previous institution that may be transferred to Emory. This information should aid you in determining which credits will satisfy part of Emory's graduation requirements, distribution requirements, and departmental major requirements printed in the Emory College catalog.
-
Credit is awarded at Emory in semester hours: one
semester hour at another institution is equal to one semester
hour at Emory; one quarter hour at another institution is
equal to two-thirds of a semester hour at Emory. Credit is
awarded on the basis of semester hours earned, not on the
basis of the number of courses completed.
-
In general, Emory will award credit for transferred coursework
if the courses meet the following three criteria: 1) the
course taken corresponds to a course offered at Emory
College, 2) the course was taken at an accredited college or
university, and 3) the course grade was a C or better. Credit
for physical education courses does not transfer, but the
physical education requirements at Emory are waived on
the basis of residence at another institution.
- Credit earned through a proficiency examination at your previous institution will not be accepted.
-
Credit earned through an advanced placement (AP) examination
score of 4 or 5 will typically transfer. Credit earned
through an International Baccalaureate (IB) higher level
examination score of 5, 6, or 7 will typically transfer. Official
score reports of the AP or IB are required. For credit to
transfer, AP or IB exam subjects must correspond to coursework
offered in Emory College.
- Academic departments reserve the right to limit the amount of transfer credit that may be applied to their major programs. Transfer applicants are therefore advised to consult with the department in which they plan to major.
- Regardless of the number of credit hours you are awarded, you must spend at least four semesters in residence at Emory to earn a baccalaureate degree. Terms spent as a visiting student may not be applied toward the four semester residency requirement.
If you are accepted for admission, the Office of Admission will
send you a tentative evaluation of your transfer credit. A final
evaluation will be sent once a final transcript is received from
your previous college. Materials for credit evaluations must
be submitted no later than the last day of classes during your
first semester of Emory College. Credit will not be given for
materials submitted after this deadline.

Housing
Emory requires that all transfer students who enter as sophomores
live on campus. For these students, housing is guaranteed.
On-campus housing may be limited for entering junior
transfer students, particularly in the fall semester. Housing
registration takes place online once a student has paid the
admission deposit.
Should on-campus housing not be available to junior transfers,
students may keep their online application active as spaces
typically become available at the beginning of spring semester.
The Office of University Housing also supports a self-service
listing of numerous off-campus accommodations available to
students at www.housing.emory.edu/off-campus.
Following enrollment, transfer students may participate without
penalty with continuing Emory students in the on-campus
housing registration process. For more information about
housing, call the Office of University Housing at 404.727.7631
or visit www.emory.edu/HOUSING.
