BACHELOR OF ARTS IN PHILOSOPHY
Admission Requirements
Before the DSPT Admissions Committee can act on your application the following items must submitted to the Admissions Office:
- APPLICATION FORM - Complete and submit the online application form with the paid application fee.
- HIGH SCHOOL TRANSCRIPTS - If you do not already have a bachelor's degree, request official high school transcripts to be sent directly to the Admissions Office.
- COLLEGE TRANSCRIPTS - Request official transcripts of all previous college work showing an Associate of Arts degree or its equivalent, i.e., a minimum of sixty (60) semester or ninety (90) quarter units with a grade point average of 2.3 or above from an accredited college or university to be sent directly to the Admissions Office.
- RECOMMENDATIONS - Download three letters of recommendation forms and send them to your three recommenders (see Recommendations). Note that you may sign the waiver statement on each form allowing you to waive your right to access under provisions of the Family Rights and Privacy Act of 1974.
- ESSAY - Compose a statement of purpose (250 word essay) regarding your interests and goals in bachelor's studies in philosophy (see page 3 of the Application Form). You may write your essay in a word processing document, then cut and paste the document into the application form.
International students must have a satisfactory score on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or its equivalent. For information contact www.toefl.org
General Education Requirements
In order to enter the BA program at the DSPT, you must have completed from 60 to 83 semester units of college level course work showing competence in written and oral communication and in quantitative skills. You must also show a general education background in the humanities and the natural and social sciences. In the case of minor deficiencies, applicants may be accepted on condition that they make up the necessary work at an accredited college while enrolled at DSPT. Only courses with a grade of "C" or above are transferable.
