GENERAL INFORMATION FOR DEGREE-SEEKING
APPLICANTS
Please read carefully before filling out the application. To be considered for
graduate admission, all applicants must submit these items below.
- An application for graduate
admission.
- A non-refundable application fee of $25. (Paid on-line via secure
server upon submission of the application)
- An official transcript from each college or university previously
attended must be mailed directly from the issuing institution. The institution
must be a regionally accredited college or university and the transcript must
indicate the date the bachelor's degree was conferred. International students
must hold a degree from a school recognized by the government or educational
ministry within the country.
- Additional requirements (exams, interviews, or auditions) for
programs in each college are listed below.
The application will not be processed until all transcripts, other documents
and required test scores have been received. The University will not accept
photocopies or facsimile (fax) copies of any official documents required as
part of the application process.
INTERNATIONAL STUDENT ADMISSION
In addition to the items listed above, international applicants must submit the
items listed below.
- Academic records (transcripts) in their original language along with
an official English translation.
- Official results of the Test of English as a Foreign Language
(TOEFL) indicating a score of 550 or above (213 if taking the computerized
TOEFL), unless their native language is English or they already received a
baccalaureate or equivalent degree from a regionally accredited university in
the United States, United Kingdom, Canada (excluding French Quebec), English-speaking Africa, Australia or
New Zealand. This requirement is waived
for students who successfully complete level five of English instruction at the
American Language Academy on the Butler campus.
- Proof of financial support for educational and living expenses while
at Butler University. The documents required are official bank statements and
affidavits of support from all sponsors. Visa documents will not be issued
until the University is assured that the annual costs can be met. Upon
admission, visa documents will be issued through the Office of International

TESTING INFORMATION
The Graduate Management Admission Test or (GMAT) bulletin of information and
registration form is available from the Educational Testing Service, P.O. Box
6103, Princeton, NJ, 08541-6103 or www.gmat.org, or call Butler's College of

The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) bulletin of information and registration
form is available from the Educational Testing Service, P.O. Box 6000,
Princeton, NJ, 08541-6000 or www.gre.org or it
may be obtained from Butler's College of Education.
The Miller Analogies Test (MAT) bulletin of information and registration form
is available from The Psychological Corporation, 555 Academic Court, San
Antonio, TX 78204-3956, (210)921-8802. Testing arrangements may be made by
calling the Butler Department of Psychology at (317)940-9266.
The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) bulletin of information may
be obtained at U.S. embassies, consulates, U.S. Information Service offices and
at many American and international secondary schools throughout the world, and
from TOEFL, P.O. Box 6151, Princeton, NJ 08541-6151, or www.toefl.org. Testing arrangements may be made
by calling Butler's College of Education at (317)940-9517.
To make arrangements to take the computerized GRE General Test or GMAT, contact
the Sylvan Testing Center locally at (317)247-7664. For general information,

GENERAL INFORMATION FOR NON-DEGREE
APPLICANTS
Applications for admission as a graduate non-degree student are accepted on a
rolling basis. To be considered for a graduate non-degree admission, all
applicants must submit the items listed below.
- An application for graduate admission
with the following areas completed: entire first page and statement of
applicant and the non-refundable $25 application fee (payable online via secure server at time of
submission). Applicants are not required to submit a personal statement.
- An official transcript with degree posted from the institution granting
the bachelor's degree. The institution must be a regionally accredited
college or university. International students must hold a degree from a school
recognized by the government or education ministry within the country.
- All non-U.S. citizens and those educated in countries other than the
United States whose first language is not English will be required to
submit the official results of the Test of English as a Foreign Language
(TOEFL) indicating a score of 550 or above (213 if taking the computerized
TOEFL). Please see the international student admission section above for
information about waivers to this policy.
- If applying to the College of Business Administration, a current
resume and interview with the director of graduate studies of the college. Call

Educational Administration-Experiential Program for Preparing School
Principals (EPPSP)
Application deadline
Spring-Sept. 1
Classes of 20-25 students begin each spring semester (January).
No summer or fall admission.
Requirements for admission
In addition to the application, application fee and transcripts (see
general information), all applicants must submit the following to the Office of
Admission:
- Official results of the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) General Test or
- Official results of the Miller Analogies Test (MAT)
- Personal statement as described on the application.
Additional requirements include
(to be submitted to EPPSP coordinator in the College of Education)
- A signed agreement form
- Three completed recommendation forms
- A current resume
- An interview
- A Styles Inventory
- An English usage test and spontaneous writing sample.
Applicants will be contacted for interviews with the selection committee. Applicants will be notified of
the styles inventory and writing sample testing date by mail. The testing and interviews take place in
October. The agreement and recommendation forms are available from the graduate office in the College of
Education or via the web at www.butler.edu/educ.
Effective Teaching (concentrations in elementary grades, instructional
technology, middle grades, reading, secondary grades and special
education)

Requirements for admission

- Submit a personal statement as described on the application
- Have a cumulative undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0, or
- Submit official results of either the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) General
Test or the Miller Analogies Test (MAT) to the Office of Admission.
An interview with a faculty member from the respective concentration area also
is required. Once the candidate's application is complete, ther will be notified by mail to schedule an
interview.
All
applicants must present a portfolio and two letters of recommendation at the
interview.
Master of Science in School Counseling
Applications will be reviewed beginning
Fall-Feb. 1, continued until class is filled.
Classes of 20 students begin each fall semester.
No spring or summer admission.
Requirements for admission
In addition to the application, application fee and transcripts (see
general information), all applicants must submit the following to the Office of
Admission:
- Official results of either the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) General Test or
- the Miller Analogies Test (MAT)
- Two letters of recommendation
- Personal statement as described on the application.
An interview with a counselor education faculty member also is required; the
Graduate Education Office will contact applicants to schedule the interview
once application materials are received.
