General
Bethany is a private, co-educational, Liberal Arts College. Founded in 1840, it is the oldest degree-granting institution in West Virginia. It has an enrollment of approximately 850 students from 30 states and 20 countries. The average student age is 20 years.
|
Location
Bethany is located in the village of Bethany, West Virginia. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is a metropolitan area located 65 kilometers
northeast of Bethany, and Wheeling, West Virginia is 24 kilometers south. Our location provides the advantages of a quiet, safe environment for campus living and study, with access to the cultural attractions and internship opportunities of urban areas.
The climate of the area is temperate, with four distinct seasons.
|
The Campus
Bethany's campus is 560 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds. More than 32 academic, administrative, and residential buildings are on campus. These facilities are both modern and historic (three buildings are in the National Register of Historic Places). Bethany is also a well-equipped computerized college campus.
|
Faculty
The student-to-faculty ratio is 12:1.
Approximately 75% of the faculty have
earned a Ph.D., or the highest degree
in their academic area.
|
Room & Board
All students are provided housing
in one of fourteen residence halls. Some
buildings offer single occupancy rooms
and others offer double occupancy
rooms. All meals, including weekends,
are provided in a central dining facility
that includes a cafeteria and snack bar.
|
Health Matters
Students will be asked to complete
a medical history form and must have
current immunization prior to enrollment.
All students are also required to

is no deadline; however, students are
advised to submit all required credentials
by June 1 for Fall Semester enrollment or
November 1 for Spring Semester enrollment.
Students are expected to arrive and enroll
during the registration period at the
beginning of each session.
To be considered for admission,
international students must submit the
following credentials to the Bethany
Office of Admission:
1) Submit the Online International Student Application.
2) Official copies of academic records
from all secondary schools, colleges, or
universities previously attended. All

Copies of diplomas or certificates should
also be provided.

may be satisfied by a score of at least
500 (173 computer-based) on the
TOEFL examination, or by completing
the highest level course work offered by
an Intensive English Language Center with
a passing grade. The college prefers the
examinations or coursework to have
been taken within the past 3 years.
4) Certification of Financial Support form.

make their experiences at Bethany as
productive as possible.
Bethany also provides English as
a Second Language course work for
those who need or want some additional
language skill-building.
International students are also
able to participate in a series of orientation
activities during their first semester.
This program is designed to
help in the transition experience to the
