Financial aid comes from four primary sources: federal programs, state programs, institutional (college) sources and external sources. The term "financial aid" refers to grants, scholarships loans and work-aid programs.
- The financial aid programs offered at the federal level include Pell Grant, Supplemental Educational Opportunity grant, Stafford Loan (subsidized and unsubsidized), Federal Work-Study and Parent Loans for Undergraduate Dependent Students (PLUS). To determine eligibility, please complete the Free Application For Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). See more about this process below.
- The financial aid programs offered at the state level include HOPE Scholarship, Service Cancellable Student Loans, Governor's Scholarship, Law Enforcement Dependent Grant and other programs. You must be a resident of the state of Georgia to receive state aid. If you need an application, call and one will be mailed to you.
Please complete the Financial Aid Application. If you are also applying for Federal Student Aid, Please include Atlanta Metropolitan College's Title IV Code in step
six of the FAFSA. Atlanta Metropolitan College's Title IV Code is 012165.
The FAFSA information may be submitted to the U.S. Department of Education in any of the following ways. First, you can send the application in the envelope attached to it. The processing time will be approximately 4-6 weeks using this method. Or, you may enter the data via the Internet at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/. Simply follow the directions given and you and Atlanta Metropolitan College will have a report within 2-3 weeks.
Once your applications are submitted and processed by the Office of Student Financial Aid, the State and the Department of Education, you will receive an Award Letter from Atlanta Metropolitan College. This letter will detail the types of aid awarded, the amount awarded and the length of time covered. This document will need to be signed and returned to Atlanta Metropolitan College prior to any aid being disbursed.
Points to remember:
- Financial aid will need to be renewed each year (this includes loans). This process will begin in late January or early February.
- Loan applicants who are first-time borrowers or continuing students are required to attend a loan counseling session prior to the first disbursement of their loans. This
may be done via the Internet at http://www.mapping-your-future.org.
Loan funds cannot be disbursed until the promissory note is signed by the student
and returned to the lender.
