Instructions for the School of Nursing

Application fee: $50.00


Items 1-3 must be sent from the applicant directly to the Office of University Admissions:

  1. The completed Graduate Application for Admission. Include your signature and the date.
  2. Your completed typed essay. Be sure to attach the Graduate Essay Form to your typed essay.
  3. An application fee of $50. This fee is not refundable and is not credited on any subsequent bill. Checks or money orders should be made payable to Adelphi University. Adelphi alumni and U.S. veterans are not required to pay this fee.

Items 4 - 6 must be sent from the originating source or individual directly to the Office of University Graduate Admissions:

  1. Required standardized test scores. It is the applicant's responsibility to request that official copies of test score reports be forwarded directly to the Office of University Graduate Admissions. The standardized test recognized for admission to graduate study in the School of Nursing is the GRE (Graduate Record Exam) for Ph.D. applicants. The Educational Testing Service code for Adelphi University is 2003. Scores must be from exams taken within the last five years. The following graduate programs in the School of Nursing require submission of standardized test scores:
    • Ph.D. program: GRE required
    • All other programs: no standardized exam required
  2. Official transcripts from all colleges and universities previously attended. Failure to provide official transcripts from all schools previously attended will delay processing your application. If you previously attended Adelphi University,your Adelphi University transcript can be obtained by the Office of University Graduate Admissions
  3. Required letters of reference. Provide your references with the Applicant's Letter of Reference Form. The following programs in the School of Nursing require letters of recommendation:
    • All master's and post-master's certificate programs: two letters of reference are required. Both letters should be from one of the following: (a) dean, or former faculty member; (b) director of nursing, supervisor, or clinical coordinator prepared at the master's level.
    • Ph.D. program: three letters Must be professional references from a director, departmental chair, or former professor prepared at the doctoral level.
  4. Interview for Ph.D. applicants following receipt of completed application (March)
  5. Additional school instructions.
    • All programs: Please attach a completed curriculum vitae or résumé.
    • Ph.D. program: Professional writing sample (preferably a scholarly paper, such as a publication)
