Instructions for the College of Arts and Sciences |
Application fee: $50.00
Items 1-3 must be sent from the applicant directly to the Office of University Graduate Admissions:
- The completed Graduate Application for Admission. Include your signature and the date.
- Your completed typed essay. Be sure to attach the Graduate Essay Form to your typed essay. Refer to the Graduate Essay Form for essay questions.

An application fee of $50. This fee is not refundable and is not credited on any subsequent bill. Checks or money orders should be made payable to Adelphi University. Adelphi alumni and U.S. veterans are not required to pay this fee.
Items 4-5 must be sent from the originating source or individual directly to the Office of University Graduate Admissions:
- Official transcripts from all colleges and universities previously attended. Failure to provide official transcripts from all schools attended will delay the processing of your application. If you previously attended Adelphi University, your Adelphi University transcript can be obtained by the Office of University Graduate Admissions.
- Letters of reference. Provide two letters of reference with the Applicant's Letter of Reference Form.

- Art Education
In addition to the application essay and two letters of recommendation, students must submit to the Office
of University Graduate Admissions a visual arts portfolio. The portfolio should contain 15-20 images
demonstrating competence in one area of specialization, as well as breadth of studio experience in other media.
Images should be submitted on a CD, with appropriate file names and a slide list indicating: Your name, Title
(if applicable), Date, Size/Dimensions, and Medium. The portfolio will not be returned.

- Creative Writing
Submit a manuscript only in the genre to which you are applying. Choose one of the following:
- Poetry: 10-15 pages (approximately a dozen poems)
- Fiction: maximum of 30 pages, double-spaced, which can consist of one or more stories or part of a novel
- Dramatic writing: maximum of 50 pages, double-spaced, which can consist of a monologue, a oneact play, or a scene from a full-length play, screenplay, or television script. If an excerpt from a longer work is submitted, please include a one-paragraph description of the work as a whole.
- Studio Art
A portfolio review is required of all students applying for admission to the Master of Arts program in Studio Art.
A portfolio must be 12-15 examples of recent work and this work must have been done within the last two years.
